A meeting of the Wilkinson School Community Council was held Monday September 17, 2012 at Wilkinson Public School

Approval of Agenda

No conflicts of interest regarding the meeting’s agenda were declared. It was –

Moved by April moon and seconded by Maton Saxton

“That the agenda for the September 17, 2012 Board meeting be approved.”

Approval of Minutes of Past Meetings

It was –

Moved by Kris Kearns and seconded by Erin Vaillancourt

“That the minutes of the June 12, 2012 Annual General meeting.”

Message from the Chair
Elections - This year’s vote will be done through the backpack we will be sending forms home to every family,
-All officer seats are open this year,


Principal’s Message
-Wilkinson Teachers have agreed to withhold services and extracurricular activities will be on “Pause“ until further notice.
-Field trips, and anything during school hours is moving forward as usual
- Parents cannot run extracurricular activities without a Teacher present, due to liability concerns
- It is anticipated that this could last as long as the legislation remains in place
- Parents are encouraged to phone the administration at Wilkinson if there are any questions.
- EQAO- Grade 3’s did very well; Grade 6 writing was greatly improved
- Playground equipment has been ordered for the Kindergarten area

Treasurer’s Report
Current Balance $24 000.00

$22 000 committed to the new Play Structure in the Kindergarten Playground


Funding
Art Programs have not been booked yet

Fundraising
-Movie Night – 8 Movies Nights per year, see Martin Saxton and Susan Haney if you would like to volunteer
- Bookfair will move forward, however it will be run by the parents
-Learning Garden – will be discussed by the new council in October
-GRANTS – Parenting Reaching out for $1000.00 has been secured
- Please refer to the fundraising Calendar to ensure on over lapping (April Moon)

Nothing to report


Safety Committee
School would like to close of the entrances to the school grounds at the back of the playground, Parent Council expressed deep concern, citing the entrances are also used for safety exits at night by the community. It was strongly felt that before this is considered the community should be involved in the discussion. As pointed out by Mr. Kelly the school cannot bar people from using the grounds, however, he expresses concern for people walking through during school hours.

-New Parent Council needs to be elected
-Parent Council Executive Committee needs to be elected, all position open
