Wilkinson was designated a Gold EcoSchool in 2013 after previously being designated a Bronze EcoSchool in 2011.
We have a very active EcoTeam that meets once a week to plan and run various eco-initiatives. Grade 4, 5 and 6 students educate their peers on various topics and ways to help the environment.
EcoSchool initiatives include:
- litterless lunches
- composting and vermicomposting
- reusable paper bins
- turning off the lights on sunny days
- car free day
- community clean-up days
- an electronic newsletter
- waste audits
- presentations and skits during assemblies
We strive to integrate ecological literacy in every classroom throughout the year. Our active parent community helps coordinate the vegetable garden and maintain our beautiful learning garden made up of native plant species.
