Carol also thanked Sunny Mills for five years of hard work, including refreshing the Fun Fair and introducing Pizza Lunches and Movie Night. Carol also acknowledged 12 years of service by Jacqui Strachan, who fought for programs and transformed the school council. Sunny and Jacqui were presented with framed certificates and Volunteer Emeritus t-shirts.

4. Principal’s update
Tanya reported:

    5. Treasurer’s report
Paula reported that the current balance is $15,131.19, with $200 outstanding for the teachers’ appreciation lunch.
Carol asked about profits from chocolate sales and it was confirmed that there were none. Up to 30 boxes of chocolates had to be thrown out. We earned $384.96 from the sweetheart sale and $9000 from Fun Fair. $12,519.41 is available to be spent next year.

    6. Committee updates

    i) Arts
April informed council that we won a performance by Cosima Grunsky valued at $540 by going to a performing arts preview.

    ii) Communications
Carol asked if there were any contributions for the final newsletter.

    iii) Health and Safety
Sarah asked about the code of behaviour and whether there was still an opportunity to review. Lisa advised that it was finalized for fall distribution but that it could still be reviewed after that. Karen G offered to do a plain language revision next year.

    iv) Greening
Karen G spoke about the tree dedication. She also mentioned it was too late to plant trees and shrubs this year so the Greening committee will request funds next year.

    v) Fundraising
Susan raised a few ideas for next year, including cookie dough and direct donations. Jamie mentioned the idea of a raffle but that we’d need a permit and dedicated person to monitor all tickets going out and coming back in. Perhaps we should raffle off baskets at movie night.

    vi) Fun Fair
April confirmed that Fun Fair was very successful. Some winners from the silent auction have still not come forward. We will have a committee of grades 4-6 next year to recommend fun fair activities for older kids. Karin D did a great job of organizing volunteers. Our bake sale, run by Karen W, broke all records.

    7. Funding requests
Karin G advised that some of the shrubs had died in front of school and need to be replaced. Motion to allocate up to $400 to replace the shrubs in the fall: Karin G. Seconded: Susan H. Carried.

    8. Report Back
Wilkinson sweatshirts – Jamie says we should wait till next school year.
Installation of Bike racks near Dandylion – Lisa thinks we need space for 20-25 bikes.
Vests/sashes for teachers on yard duty – Lisa thinks we should discuss again in September. A sash may be a lot for teachers to collect before heading out. We should inform parents where teachers stand on yard duty.

    9. New Business
Jamie asked whether the plaque in the main hallway that has Elmer the Safety Elephant on it could be taken down or repaired as it looks terrible (taped, falling apart, etc.). No decision reached.

    10. Adjournment
Motion: Jacqui. Seconded: Sarah. Adjourned at 7:40pm.
