Meeting Minutes
November 12, 2007



Present: Carol Bennett, Sarah Gillespie, Susan Haney, Sunny Mills, April Moon, Alison Motluk, Tanya Sterioff (P), Jamie Stokes, Lisa Watt (VP), Paula Weekes Kahn

Meeting called to order at 7:05pm.

1. Approval of the Agenda
Council approved the agenda and decided to try going forward dispensing with motioning and seconding to approve meeting agendas and minutes. Motions will be used in matters of finance and key decisions.

2. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Council approved the minutes from October 15 once Paula confirms the financials.

3. Principal's update
* Cheryl Shannon from the Island School will visit the school on the morning of Wednesday November 14 to talk with students from grades 5 and 6 about their upcoming trip in December
* There will be an anti-bullying presentation for students K-6 in the gym on Wednesday afternoon - Council discussed whether the program was geared towards younger as well as older children and if bullying among girls would be addressed as well
* Report cards go home Monday, November 26
* Dental technicians will visit the school November 26-29 to check children's teeth
* Photo retake day is Wednesday November 28
* Parent interviews will take place Wednesday November 28 and Thursday November 29
* Friday November 30 is a PA Day in lieu for time spent reporting to parents
* Thursday, November 29 is booked for Wil-Kitchen

4. Treasurer's report
Paula presented the treasurer's report, but as today was a Bank Holiday, in some cases she couldn't get exact figures. We owe $4800 for chocolates. There was a funding request for $300 to cover half the cost of the anti-bullying assembly. Motion: Sunny. Seconded: Carol.

April asked if the Canadian Opera Company was paid in full. Paula confirmed that two cheques were issued.

Sunny reminded Council that the cheque to Criterion (for our movie licence) needs to be sent. (amount to be confirmed)

Susan discussed the permit for Wil-Kitchen. Payment needs to be issued for this as well.

5. Committee updates

* Arts
April told Council that the Monkey Bunch want to give back as a donation to the school some of what we paid them to perform. Carol confirmed that they would have to do so through the TDSB. April confirmed that it will be for tax year 2008.

Susan said that Ted [Dykstra] and Melanie [Doane] will come into the school sometime between January 22 and 31 for two days of 1.5 hours -- one for lyrics, the other for music.

* Communications
The communications committee met to discuss amalgamating the Council newsletter with the principal's monthly message. Kim [Diamond] will help with photocopying and layout.

Carol asked whether members would mind having their photos displayed on the bulletin board. Alison requested that photos of others, such as the office staff and lunchroom attendants, also be posted.

Carol reported that Phil [Kahn] has updated the website.

* Fundraising
Susan requested that the sale of fair trade chocolate be put off until the New Year, perhaps Valentine's Day or even Mother's Day.

Council discussed selling Wilkinson hoodies in time for Christmas. Carol confirmed that an order form is being put together.

Sunny apologized about the movie night that did not happen on November 9. On November 23, The Simpson's Movie will be shown. Susan confirmed that there will be Starbucks coffee available out front for parents. Sunny asked about the missing float.

Sunny said that pizza lunches seem to be working: 140 kids are involved. Tickets for the next round of pizza lunches will be sold in two 3-month batches. Susan mentioned that some people were confused about what pizza lunches were.

* Greening
No report from the Greening committee although our guest expressed interest in joining. April discussed how Gledhill had a wish list drawn up for their playground. Tanya confirmed we have such a plan but no money to institute it. Lisa mentioned that graffiti was removed from the school's north side.

* Health and Safety
No report from Health and Safety committee.

7. New Business/Other Items
April asked about Dandylion students attending lunchtime clubs. Tanya confirmed they were walked across. Lisa mentioned a new lunchtime club on graphic novels/anime will start soon.

Carol mentioned that Wil-Kitchen is rescheduled for November 29 at 7pm and will feature samosa-making.

Carol mentioned that Council is still working on an updated principal profile.

Council discussed the Fun Fair. A parent at Wilkinson owns a bouncy castle. Jamie offered to use his contacts to help raise money.
