  • Principal’s Update -- Tanya
• New Grade 3 teacher, Lindsay Whitfield, replacing Sarah Neurodoffer
• Staff initiative “Common Respect” theme for this term
• Upcoming Events:
o Jan 20th – Jump Rope for Heart
o Jan 23-26th – Dental screening
o Jan 30th – Lunar New Year
o Jan 31st – French Immersion Information Night at 7:00 pm
o Feb 10th – P.D. Day
• Concern raised about incidence of head lice in classrooms and consistency of sending notices home.
Action: Tanya to check teachers are following procedures on sending notices home; next newsletter to include information promoting education on detecting and treating; Karen to follow up on contacting public health nurse and getting any information that could be shared with parents

Council Constitution – Karen
• Discussion around the 2 general meetings required (Fall council election meeting and year end financial statement meeting); no revisions required
Action: Bianca to provide short description on performing arts committee to be added to Constitution; Karen to edit Constitution for next meeting.


Treasurer’s Update – John H.
i) Statement of Financial Position – January 10, 2006 distributed
• Funds available: $13,286.94, does not reflect additional deposit made (approx $800)
o Funds available for additional expenditures.
Action: Ruth Allen to follow up with Kindergarten staff about storage shed; Tanya to cost basketball court options.

ii) Funding Requests:
• Request for $500.00 for 20-25 shrubs for front garden

Action: John to follow up on possible Evergreen funding still available

• Request from Communications Committee for $20 to register domain name for website

5. Committee Updates
i) Performing Arts Committee – Bianca
• Performances booked:
o March 6 at 1pm - Kanata Native Dance for grades 1-6
o April 7th - Breadbox Theatre, 4 shows for grades K-3
o April 12th at 10:20am – Moishe meets Mike Hammer “Beethoven meets Pollack” for grades 4-6
o May 8th – C.O.C. production
• Total budget shortfall for above performances of $265.00
Motion to approve up to $300.00 to cover shortfall: Jacqui/Carol

o Action: Bianca to ask for students’ reviews of performances for newsletter

ii) Greening & Grounds Committee – Karen G/John H.
• Developing ideas for signs in garden and binder of curriculum ideas for teachers
• Starting garden club in Spring; putting new sign in garden for those interested to get involved; will put notice in March newsletter
• Permanent signs by season to engage students; Lisa de Macdougall setting up environmental club, could link in

iii) Communications Committee – Carol B.
• Committee met this week and discussed content for Feb. newsletter
• Always looking for submissions; not just good ideas, but someone to write articles
• Deadline for articles is beginning of last week of month
• Ideas for articles: profile on new Vice-Principal; information on Mr. Harry’s band and how to get in

iv) Fundraising Committee –
• Sunny advised next movie on Jan 20th “Corpse Bride”
• Next pizza lunch Jan 27th
• Fun Fair: April Moon to co-coordinate; participants include Karen and Carol
Action: Schedule committee meeting and put invitation in newsletter for all interested in participating on Fun Fair committee

6. Other Business
• Flyers for alternative schools in area going out/have gone out; idea raised to put information in newsletter, but meetings will have already happened before next newsletter goes out.
