Communications Committee

What the committee does:
• Coordinates communication between the school, the home and the community
• Keeps the Wilkinson community up-to-date on all the Council’s activities through the website, a monthly newsletter, email and flyers

Health & Safety Committee
Coordinator: Sarah Gillespie
What the committee does:
• Supports the Wilkinson community with input, direction and/or action in the following areas: -Physical safety of children, staff and others at the school – including the safety of the building and grounds
-Personal safety of children, staff and others at the school – including issues of bullying, offensive language, aggressive behaviour and security concerns
-Public Health initiatives at the school – including issues of illness, healthy lifestyles and injury prevention
-Physical Education & Sports aspect of the curriculum as well as any extra-curricular aspects – including policies on participation, support for teachers in delivering programs

Greening & Grounds Comittee
Coordinator: Kirsten McGoey
What the committee does:
• Supports the Wilkinson community in education about the environment and environmental issues, and the greening of the school and community
• Maintains Wilkinson’s gardens
• Works with teachers to incorporate the learning gardens into the curriculum
• Encourages the three R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle

• Enhancements to the schoolyard

Fun Fair Committee

What the committee does:
• Organizes and runs the annual Fun Fair that takes place every May and is our biggest fundraiser and community event. Organization includes:
• Establishes a budget
• Recruits volunteers
• Decides on types of events and activities
• Advertising and publicity

Fundraising Committee

What the committee does:
• Researches and assesses potential fundraising ideas to support Wilkinson students and community
• Organizes and coordinates fundraising events
Types of fundraisers
• Chocolate sales
• Pizza lunches
• Movie Nights
• Sweetheart Bake Sale (February)

Education Committee
What the committee does:
• Informs members of the Wilkinson community about education policies and issues at the school, board and provincial level
• Organizes any parent information nights
• Makes submissions on behalf of the Council to boards and hearings (as required)
• Provides education information to the community by liaising with the Communications Committee

Arts Committee

What the committee does:
• Brings in artists and performers to support the curriculum and create opportunities for Wilkinson students to develop an appreciation of artistic expression in various forms
• Researches opportunities to support the curriculum through the use of fine arts
