Dear Friends in Christ
at St. David's,
Christmas is coming!
How do we know this? Could it be the Christmas music in the
stores, or the displays that seemed to appear the day after
Halloween(or earlier)? Perhaps we should be thankful that
the season of peace and joy begins earlier each year; I
hope that we can also step back from the rush and prepare
our hearts and
lives for a truly holy Christmas. We have a great
opportunity to do this in the season of Advent.
Advent begins on Sunday, November 30 this year. The word
'advent' is Latin for 'a coming or arrival'. In Advent we
prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ, in two ways. As we
prepare for the celebration at Christmas of Jesus' birth,
we also prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus.
People who travel across different time zones often set
their watches to destination time as soon as they board
their flight. They start living in the time zone to which
they are traveling. As we journey through Advent, and
beyond, let us set our "spiritual watches" to reflect the
time zone of our ultimate destination. Even as we enjoy the
traditional pleasures and joys of the runup to Christmas,
let us not lose sight of our ultimate goal, as we prepare
for the coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Especially at this time of year, may we, by the grace of
God, live ever more responsibly, lovingly and graciously.
I encourage everyone to use the coming season of Advent to
prepare to celebrate a joyous, holy Christmas. This letter
contains details of our plans for Advent, Christmas, and
activities in the near future. Whether you're able to be
present every week, or only occasionally, we look forward
to seeing you.
We pray for God's grace to be upon you, and for His richest
blessings upon every member of St. David's church family.
In Christ,
